Specialty & ER Medical Moments Module

Breed Identification

Discuss with your teammates the five most common breeds of animals your hospital routinely sees. Talk about common genetic diseases and breed characteristics.

Post a picture on the "VRCE Specialty & ER Study Group" of a patient seen in your hospital that you could not identify the breed or mix of breeds. Title the post “Identify the Breed.” *Be sure to obtain the owner's permission before posting. Include the date of your post below.

Veterinary Terminology for Specialty and Emergency CSR’s

Safe Animal Handling

Work with a teammate and practice using a slip lead on friendly patients or stuffed animals. Write down techniques you could use for an aggressive patient or describe how you would instruct an owner to use a slip lead below.

Think about the ways you may be able to tell if a pet is aggressive. What warning signs may an aggressive animal display? What is your role at your hospital when aggressive patients are in the lobby?

Have a coworker take a picture of you performing a safe restraint on a patient. Post the picture to the "VRCE Specialty & ER Study Group." Make sure you have the client’s permission to photograph their pet. Title this post “Safe Restraint”. Comment on the type of restraint you are performing. Select the date of your post below.
